The short answer
Tyre puncture repair in Arjan, Dubai, is booked through Arjan Battery on WhatsApp. A proper repair means taking the tyre off the rim, inspecting the inside, and sealing the hole with a combined plug and patch. Only punctures in the central tread, up to about 6 mm wide, can be repaired. Sidewall or shoulder damage means a new tyre.
A string plug pushed in from outside gets you home. It tells nobody what the inside of the tyre looks like after it ran soft, and that is where tyres fail later, at speed, in August heat. This page is about the permanent repair. We tell you on WhatsApp if it can be done at your parking or goes to the workshop, with pickup and drop-off from Arjan.
What the job covers
- Wheel removed and the tyre taken off the rim
- Inside of the tyre inspected for damage from running soft
- Hole cleaned out and a plug-patch bonded from the inside
- Tyre refitted, inflated and leak-checked
- Wheel balanced and the tyre pressure system reset
- A clear no when the tyre should not be repaired
Signs you need it
- One tyre needs air every few days
- A nail or screw is stuck in the tread
- The pressure warning returns soon after you top up
- The tyre is still running on a temporary plug or sealant
- Bubbles appear at one spot when the tyre is wet
Three ways to seal a hole
Repairable, or replace
Can be repaired
- A clean hole from a nail or screw in the central tread
- A hole no wider than about 6 mm
- The tyre was not driven flat and the inner liner is intact
- Tread still well above the 1.6 mm legal minimum, with no age cracks
- No earlier repair close to the new hole
Must be replaced
- Any puncture, cut or bulge in the sidewall
- Damage in the shoulder, where the tread curves into the sidewall
- A slit or gash instead of a round hole
- Rubber dust or creasing inside from running flat
- Exposed cords, or tread worn down to the wear bars
Run-flat tyres and sealant kits
Run-flat tyres, common on BMW and Mini and on some Mercedes-Benz models, have stiff sidewalls that carry the car with no air, typically for about 80 km at up to 80 km/h. That is what makes repair uncertain: the sidewall may have been overworked inside with nothing to see outside. Some tyre makers allow one repair, others none. We inspect the inside and follow the tyre maker's rule.
Many newer cars have no spare at all, only a bottle of sealant and a small compressor. The sealant works on small holes in the tread, but it coats the inside of the tyre and the pressure sensor. It has to be cleaned out before a plug-patch will bond, so tell us if you used it. A tyre that has had sealant in it can often still be repaired.
Tyre words used on this page
- Tread
- The grooved band that touches the road. Only its central part can take a repair.
- Shoulder
- The curved edge between tread and sidewall. It flexes too much for a patch to stay bonded.
- Sidewall
- The side of the tyre that carries the size markings. It is thin, it flexes constantly, and it is never repaired.
- Inner liner
- The airtight rubber layer inside a tubeless tyre. The patch bonds to it.
- TPMS
- Tyre pressure monitoring. Direct systems have a sensor in each valve; indirect systems use the ABS wheel sensors and need a reset after pressures are set.
- DOT date code
- Four digits on the sidewall giving the week and year of manufacture, so 2321 means week 23 of 2021.
Heat is why a poor repair matters here
In a Dubai summer the road surface is far hotter than the air, and a tyre at motorway speed on E311 runs hotter still. An underinflated tyre flexes more and heats further. A plug that seeps, or a liner damaged by running flat, is what becomes a blowout in those conditions. Check pressures monthly with the tyres cold.

Tyre puncture repair: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
Can a tyre with a nail in it be repaired?
Usually, if the nail is in the central part of the tread, the hole is no wider than about 6 mm and the tyre was not driven flat. Leave the nail in until the repair, since it is slowing the leak. The final answer comes after the inside of the tyre has been inspected.
Can a sidewall puncture be repaired?
No. The sidewall is thin and bends with every turn of the wheel, so no patch stays bonded and the cords around the hole are weakened. The same applies to the shoulder. A tyre damaged there is replaced, ideally with one that matches the tyre on the other side of the axle.
Is a plug enough, or do I need a plug-patch?
A plug from outside is a temporary fix. It can seep, and it leaves the inside unchecked. A plug-patch is fitted from inside: the stem fills the hole so water cannot reach the steel belts, and the patch seals the liner. That combination is what tyre makers treat as a permanent repair.
Can run-flat tyres be repaired?
Sometimes. It depends on the tyre maker's policy and on how far and how fast the tyre was driven without air. If the inside shows heat marks or creasing, it is replaced. Tell us the brand and model printed on the sidewall and roughly how far you drove after the warning came on.
Does the tyre pressure warning need resetting after a repair?
On many cars, yes. Indirect systems are reset from the dashboard menu once all four tyres are at the placard pressure. Direct systems with valve sensors usually clear after a short drive. We set the pressures and do the reset as part of the repair.
