A young car can still have an old battery
In UAE heat a car battery commonly lasts about 2 to 3 years, so an MG bought new can need its first battery while the rest of the car still feels fresh. The battery also began ageing when it was filled at the factory, not on the day you collected the car, and it may have spent months in shipping and stock before that.
So do not rule the battery out because the car is young. Rule it in or out with a test. What battery does an MG ZS take?
Most petrol MG ZS models take a DIN battery of about 45 to 60Ah with recessed terminals, fitted under the bonnet. The exact case length depends on the engine and year. Send a photo of the label, and we bring the matching battery to your car in Arjan or anywhere in Dubai and fit it there.
Does the MG HS need an AGM battery?
Only if it has start-stop. HS versions whose engine switches off at traffic lights came with an EFB or AGM start-stop battery, and the replacement has to be the same type or better. Versions without start-stop use a standard maintenance-free battery. The label on the fitted battery settles it.
My MG is only two years old. Can the battery really be dead?
Yes. About 2 to 3 years is a common battery life in UAE heat, and short trips or long spells parked in a basement shorten it further. It may also only be discharged. A test of resting voltage and cranking strength at your car shows which, before you decide anything.
Does the MG ZS EV have a normal 12V battery?
Yes. The ZS EV has a small 12V battery under the bonnet that powers the locks, the screens and the contactors for the main pack. If it goes flat the car will not switch on, even when the drive battery is full. It can be tested and replaced at your door like any other car battery.
