Thin posts: the Honda detail that catches people out
What Honda fits
- Small B-series JIS batteries whose terminal posts are narrower than the posts on most other car batteries.
- Cable clamps sized for those thin posts, so they tighten fully with a few turns of a 10mm spanner.
- A short tray and a top bracket made for one case length and one case height.
What goes wrong with a near match
- A standard-post battery forces the clamps open. They are hammered on or left loose, and the car cuts out over a speed bump.
- A battery with the posts on the opposite side leaves the positive cable stretched across the case or unable to reach.
- A taller case touches the bonnet lining or stops the bracket from seating, so the battery shakes itself to an early end.
A small battery against a Dubai summer
A Civic or City battery holds roughly half the energy of the battery in a large SUV, yet it runs the same AC compressor clutch, blower, headlights and screen. - Four-cylinder cars usually take an NS60 class battery such as 46B24L or 55B24L, which surprises owners of a car this size. V6 cars step up to a D23 or D26 case.
- Honda Civic
- Depending on generation and engine, an NS40 or NS60 class battery. Turbo cars with idle stop need the EFB version of the same case. We read the label first, because Civic fitments changed often.
- Honda CR-V
- Most take a B24 case battery of around 45 to 55Ah. Hybrid versions also have a 12V battery, and when it goes flat the car will not switch on, even with a charged hybrid pack.
- Honda City
- Takes one of the smallest batteries we carry, an NS40 class B19 or B20 with thin posts. It has little reserve, so a door left ajar overnight is often enough to flatten it.
- Honda HR-V
- Uses the same small B-series batteries as the City and Civic, NS40 to NS60 class by year. The tray is tight, so a taller or longer battery will not clamp down.
- Honda Pilot
- The V6 needs real cranking power and takes a D26 class battery such as 80D26L. It uses standard-size posts, unlike the smaller Hondas.

What battery does a Honda Civic take?
It depends on the generation and engine. Most Civics in the UAE take a small JIS battery in the NS40 or NS60 class, about 35 to 50Ah, with an L terminal layout. Turbo trims with idle stop need an EFB. Send a photo of the label and we bring the matching one.
Will I lose my Honda radio code when the battery is changed?
Not with us, in most cases. We connect a memory saver before the old battery comes off, which keeps the radio, clock and window settings powered where the car allows it. If the battery is already completely dead the radio may still ask for its code, which is printed on a card in the owner's pack.
Why is the Honda Accord battery so small?
