An Italian maker with a factory-fit background
FIAMM comes from Montecchio Maggiore, near Vicenza in northern Italy, and has made batteries since the 1940s. The company supplies starter batteries to European carmakers as well as to parts shops, and older drivers also know the name from car horns. Its car range is built to DIN and EN dimensions, which is what Italian, French and German battery trays are cut for.
There are three families. The standard one is a sealed maintenance-free calcium battery for cars without start-stop. The second is enhanced flooded, which FIAMM often labels AFB and other brands call EFB. The third is AGM, for start-stop with brake energy recovery. We read the label on your fitted battery and bring the same family.
In Dubai the hard cases are small European hatchbacks. The battery sits in a tight corner of a hot engine bay, and stop-and-go traffic on Hessa Street or Umm Suqeim Street makes a start-stop system restart the engine again and again. Is FIAMM a good battery brand for Dubai?
Yes, for European cars. FIAMM is an established Italian maker that also supplies carmakers, and its batteries come in the DIN sizes those cars need. Like any lead-acid battery in UAE heat it commonly lasts about 2 to 3 years, so plan a test from the second summer onward.
What does AFB mean on a FIAMM battery?
It is the label FIAMM uses for its enhanced flooded batteries, the family most other brands call EFB. It is made for entry-level start-stop cars and handles frequent restarts better than a standard battery. It is not a substitute for AGM in a car that was built with AGM.
Which FIAMM battery fits a Fiat 500 or a Peugeot 208?
Both use small DIN cases, but the exact size and type change with the engine and with whether the car has start-stop. Send a photo of the label on the fitted battery, or of the registration card, and we confirm the matching FIAMM before the technician sets off.
Does a FIAMM battery need coding on a Mercedes or BMW?
