The short answer
A Hyundai takes a maintenance-free battery of about 35 to 90Ah: small in an i10 or Accent, mid-size in an Elantra, Tucson or Sonata, and large in a Santa Fe, Palisade or Staria. Versions with Idle Stop and Go need AGM or EFB. Arjan Battery checks which one your car uses and fits it at your door in Arjan or across Dubai.
Hyundai changed its batteries more than most makes. Older cars use Japanese-style JIS cases with raised posts. Many newer ones use European-style DIN cases with the terminals set below the top, and the two do not swap. Two Tucson models a few years apart can need different batteries, so the model name alone is not enough for us to load the right one.

What we check on a Hyundai before bringing a battery
One photo of the battery label on WhatsApp answers most of these.
- Case style: JIS with raised posts, or DIN with terminals recessed below the top of the battery.
- Terminal side, because Hyundai battery cables are cut short and will not stretch across.
- Whether the car has Idle Stop and Go, which decides between a standard battery and AGM or EFB.
- Engine size, since a 2.0 and a 3.5 version of the same model can use different capacities.
- Whether there is a battery sensor clipped to the negative terminal that must be refitted carefully.
Hyundai models and their usual battery class
Idle Stop and Go changes which battery fits
Hyundai calls its start-stop system ISG. A car with ISG restarts its engine again and again in one slow drive along Hessa Street, and it runs the AC fan, lights and screen from the battery while the engine is off. That needs an AGM or EFB battery. A standard battery will fit the tray, but it wears out fast and the car soon stops using ISG at all.
These cars also have a battery sensor on the negative terminal. After a new battery goes in, the sensor needs the car parked and locked for a few hours to recalibrate. Until then ISG may not operate and the engine may keep running at junctions. That is normal. It needs no scan tool on most Hyundai models, only a night in the car park.
How the visit works in Arjan
Tested first
Resting voltage, cranking strength and alternator output are measured before any battery is offered. A healthy battery stays in the car.
Done where it is parked
Tower basement, podium level, villa driveway or mall car park. Send the building name, level and bay, because signal drops underground.
Warranty up to 24 months
The length depends on the brand and battery type you choose, and it is stated on WhatsApp before the technician sets off.
Old battery removed
Delivery and fitting are free, and the old battery goes with the technician for recycling, so nothing is left in your parking bay.
Hyundai: Model by model
- Hyundai Accent
- A small battery, roughly 40 to 50Ah. Case style changed between generations, so a photo of the fitted battery tells us whether to bring JIS or DIN.
- Hyundai Elantra
- Usually a mid-size battery of about 45 to 60Ah under the bonnet. Older cars take a JIS case, while recent generations mostly use a DIN case with recessed terminals.
- Hyundai Sonata
- Most take a battery of about 60 to 80Ah depending on engine. Sonata Hybrid has a separate arrangement for its 12V supply, so tell us if yours is a hybrid.
- Hyundai Tucson
- Usually about 60 to 70Ah. Versions with Idle Stop and Go came with AGM and must get AGM again; we confirm from the label on the fitted battery.
- Hyundai Santa Fe
- A larger battery, usually around 80Ah. Seven seats, rear AC and a powered tailgate add load, and stop-start versions need AGM.
- Hyundai Creta
- A compact battery of about 45 to 50Ah in a small tray. It is quick to change, but there is no room to fit a bigger case.
- Hyundai Palisade
- One of the largest Hyundai batteries, around 80 to 90Ah, with AGM on versions that have Idle Stop and Go. The V6 needs strong cranking power in summer.
- Hyundai IONIQ 5
- Fully electric, but it still has a small 12V battery under the bonnet for locks, screens and contactors. If that goes flat the car will not switch on, even with a full main battery.

Hyundai: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
What battery size does a Hyundai Tucson take?
Most Tucson models take a battery of about 60 to 70Ah, and versions with Idle Stop and Go take AGM. The case style changed between generations, so two Tucson cars can need different batteries. Send the year and a photo of the fitted battery, and we bring the right one to you in Arjan or Dubai.
Does my Hyundai with ISG need an AGM battery?
Yes, if it came with one. Hyundai fits AGM to most ISG models and EFB to some smaller ones, and the label on your current battery says which. Fitting a standard battery where a start-stop battery belongs leads to early failure, and ISG will usually stop working within weeks.
Why is start-stop not working after a new battery on my Hyundai?
The battery sensor has not finished relearning. On most Hyundai models it needs the car parked, locked and undisturbed for a few hours before it trusts the new battery. Leave the car overnight and drive normally the next day. If ISG is still off after that, message us and we check it.
Does a Hyundai IONIQ 5 have a 12V battery?
Yes. Every electric Hyundai has a small 12V battery that runs the locks, the screens and the contactors that connect the main pack. When it goes flat the car appears completely dead. A jump start service on the 12V terminals usually wakes it, and we then test whether the 12V battery needs replacing.
Is a Mobis battery the genuine Hyundai battery?
Mobis is the parts company of Hyundai Motor Group, and Mobis-branded batteries are sold as the genuine replacement for Hyundai and Kia cars. We stock them alongside Solite, Sebang and Varta. All come with free fitting in Arjan and a warranty of up to 24 months, depending on brand and type.
