The short answer
Arjan Battery offers car battery testing in Arjan, Dubai, at your parking, 24 hours a day. A technician measures resting voltage, cranking performance against the rated cold-cranking amps, and alternator charging output. You are then told plainly whether the battery is healthy, only discharged, or due for replacement. If it is fine, we say so.
A voltmeter on its own cannot tell a good battery from a bad one. A battery can show 12.5V and still fail to turn the engine. Our test takes a few minutes, puts three numbers in front of you, and separates a worn battery from a weak alternator or a hidden drain. It is worth doing before summer, before a long drive and before buying a used car.
What the job covers
- Resting voltage reading with the surface charge removed
- Cranking test: measured CCA against the label rating
- Alternator output with the engine running and loads switched on
- Inspection of terminals, clamps and the earth strap
- Parasitic drain check when a battery keeps going flat
- A clear verdict: keep, recharge or replace
Signs you need it
- A slow crank on the first start, normal later in the day
- The battery is past its second year and summer is close
- Headlights dim at idle and brighten when you rev
- Start-stop has stopped cutting the engine at traffic lights
- The car needed a jump start and you do not know why
- The battery light flickers on the dash while driving
What the numbers mean
- Resting, about 12.6V
- Fully charged
- Resting, about 12.2V
- Half charged: charge it before judging it
- Resting, under 12.0V
- Discharged: find out what emptied it
- While cranking
- A healthy battery usually stays above about 9.6V
- Measured CCA against the label
- Close to the rating is healthy, well below it means capacity has gone
- Engine running
- Roughly 13.8 to 14.7V from a working alternator
Resting means the engine has been off for a while. A battery that has just been driven shows a surface charge that reads higher than the truth. Smart alternators vary their output on purpose.
Words on the tester printout
- Resting voltage
- Voltage with the engine off and the car asleep. It shows how full the battery is, not how strong it is.
- CCA (cold-cranking amps)
- The starting current the battery is rated to deliver, printed on the label under an EN, SAE or JIS standard.
- State of health (SOH)
- How much of its original cranking ability the battery still has. Charging does not bring lost health back.
- State of charge (SOC)
- How full the battery is right now. A low state of charge can be fixed with a charger or a long drive.
- Surface charge
- A false high reading just after driving or charging. Switching the headlights on briefly removes it.
- Parasitic drain
- Current the car draws while parked. A small draw is normal, but a module that never sleeps flattens a battery in days.
The tests, in the order we run them
- 1
Rest reading
Meter across the terminals with the engine off. If the car has just been driven, the surface charge is cleared first.
- 2
Cranking test
An electronic tester is set to the CCA and standard on the label and reads what the battery can deliver now. Then we watch the voltage while the engine starts.
- 3
Charging test
With the engine running we read the alternator voltage, then again with headlights, AC and rear demister on. Ripple in the reading points to a failing diode.
- 4
Drain check, when needed
If the battery is healthy but keeps going flat, an ammeter shows what the car draws after its modules have gone to sleep.
What each result means for you
If the battery tests fine, we tell you it is fine and you keep it. A new battery fitted to a car with a weak alternator is back on the tester within weeks.
When battery testing is worth booking
- Before summer, once the battery is past its second year
- Before a long drive to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or the northern emirates
- After any jump start, to learn why the battery went flat
- Before buying a used car, together with a look at the battery's date code
- After the car has stood in the basement for weeks while you were away
- When start-stop stops cutting in, often the first sign on newer cars
How Car battery testing works at your door
No app, no account. One message is enough.
- 1
Send your pin and your car
WhatsApp your live location with the make, model and year, or call. In a basement, add the tower name and bay number.
- 2
Get the price and arrival time
We reply with the battery options that fit, the full price and how long the van will take. Nothing moves until you say yes.
- 3
We test before we fit
The technician checks the old battery and the alternator first. If a jump start or a clean terminal fixes it, that is what you get.
- 4
Pay and drive
Cash, card, Tabby or Tamara at the car. Your warranty of up to 24 months arrives on WhatsApp before the van leaves.
Typical time at the car: 15 to 25 minutes.

Car battery testing: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
How long does a car battery test take?
The three main readings take about 5 to 10 minutes at the car. A parasitic drain check takes longer, because the car's modules need time to go to sleep before the reading means anything. The technician tells you which test fits your symptoms before starting.
My battery shows 12.4V. Is it still good?
Voltage only tells you how full the battery is. At 12.4V it is around three quarters charged, which could be a healthy battery after short trips or a worn one that no longer fills up. The cranking test, which compares measured amps with the label, is what decides it.
The tester says replace but the car still starts. Why?
A warm engine needs little current to start, so a battery with half its cranking ability left still gets by on a normal day. It fails on the day that is not normal: after a week parked, or after short trips with the AC on. Plan the replacement instead of waiting for that morning.
How often should I test my car battery in Dubai?
Once a year until the battery is two years old, then before every summer. UAE heat commonly brings battery life down to about 2 to 3 years, and the cranking test shows the decline months before the first slow start. Test again after any jump start.
Do I pay a call-out charge if the battery turns out to be fine?
Any charge for a test-only visit is confirmed on WhatsApp before the technician sets off, so you know before you agree. When the test shows the battery has failed and you buy one from us, there is no call-out charge, and delivery and fitting are free.
