The short answer
A Renault takes a European DIN battery, usually 50 to 70Ah, fitted in the engine bay: sealed calcium on the Duster, Symbol and most Koleos cars, and EFB or AGM on models with Stop and Start such as the Megane and Talisman. Arjan Battery tests it, fits the right size at your door in Arjan or elsewhere in Dubai, and keeps the radio alive during the swap.
Renaults in the UAE are working cars: Dusters on site visits, Symbols on delivery rounds, a Koleos on the school run. They are simple to fit a battery to, with one catch that surprises owners every time, which is the radio asking for a code afterwards.

Four things to know about a Renault battery
It is a DIN battery
European case with recessed posts and a clamp at the base. A Japanese-size battery does not sit safely in the tray.
The radio may want a code
Many Renault radios lock when power is cut and ask for a four-digit code. A memory saver avoids the question.
Stop and Start means EFB
If the engine cuts out at traffic lights by design, the car was built with EFB or AGM and needs it again.
Heat sets the lifespan
About 2 to 3 years is usual in the UAE. Open-air parking in summer shortens it; a shaded basement helps a little.
Duster and Koleos: the two we see most
The Duster is honest to work on. The battery is in the open, the clamp is one bolt, and there is no battery monitoring to reset. Most Dusters we attend around Arjan and Dubai Science Park are company cars that idle with the AC on between visits, which is hard on a battery because the alternator charges slowly at idle.
The Koleos is a family car with more to power: a large touchscreen, powered seats on higher trims and a powered tailgate on some. It often fails after the summer holidays, when the car has stood for weeks. We test first, because a Koleos battery that is only discharged can come back with a charge.

Find the radio code before the battery comes off
On many Renaults the audio unit locks itself when the battery is disconnected and shows CODE on restart. The four digits are usually on a card in the owner's wallet. Our technician uses a memory saver so the radio never loses power, but on a car that arrives completely flat the code may already be needed.

Renault: Model by model
- Renault Duster
- A plain DIN battery of about 50 to 70Ah depending on the engine, in the open at the front of the engine bay. No stop-start on most Gulf cars, so sealed calcium is the right choice.
- Renault Koleos
- Usually a 60 to 70Ah DIN battery in the engine bay. The Koleos shares its platform with the Nissan X-Trail, and some cars have been refitted with other sizes, so we read the fitted label first.
- Renault Symbol
- One of the smaller batteries we carry for Renault, about 50Ah in an L1 or L2 case. Fleet cars on short delivery runs wear it out sooner than private cars.
- Renault Megane
- The battery sits under a plastic cover on the left of the engine bay. Later cars with Stop and Start need an EFB of about 60 to 70Ah; older ones take sealed calcium.
- Renault Captur
- A compact DIN battery of about 50 to 60Ah. Check for the Stop and Start button on the dash: if the car has it, the replacement should be EFB.
- Renault Talisman
- The large saloon runs Stop and Start and a lot of cabin electronics, so most cars carry an EFB or AGM of around 70Ah. It must be replaced with the same technology.

Renault: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
What battery does a Renault Duster take?
A DIN battery of about 50 to 70Ah, depending on whether the car has the 1.6 or the 2.0 engine. Most Gulf Dusters have no stop-start, so a sealed calcium battery is correct. Send a photo of the fitted battery and we bring the same case size.
Why does my Renault radio ask for a code after a battery change?
It is an anti-theft lock. When the radio loses power it assumes it has been removed from the car and waits for its four-digit code. The code is normally on a card supplied with the car. We prevent the lock by keeping power on the car with a memory saver during the swap.
Is the Renault Koleos battery the same as the Nissan X-Trail battery?
Not automatically. The two cars share a platform, but the battery tray and the factory fitment are not always identical across years and markets. We go by the label on the battery in your car and the space in the tray, not by the badge.
Does a Renault need the battery registered?
Most Renaults on UAE roads do not. Fit the correct size and type and the car carries on. One-touch windows may need re-teaching by holding the switch up for a few seconds. On Stop and Start cars the system can take a few drives to come back.
Do you replace Renault batteries for company fleets in Dubai?
Yes. We attend single cars and small fleets at offices, warehouses and staff accommodation. Each car is tested first, so only the batteries that fail the test are replaced. Old batteries are taken away for recycling, and payment can be by cash or card.
