The short answer
Most modern Jaguars use an AGM main battery of about 80 to 95Ah, mounted in the boot on the XE, XF, XJ, F-Pace and F-Type, and cars with stop-start add a small auxiliary battery. Both must match the original type, and the battery monitoring system needs a reset. Arjan Battery tests, replaces and resets at your door in Arjan and across Dubai.
A Jaguar tells you about its battery long before it refuses to start. The messages are specific, the system behind them is strict, and a new battery fitted without resetting that system is treated like the old one. The work is not difficult. It has to be done in the right order with the right tool.
Jaguar battery at a glance
- Make origin
- United Kingdom, Jaguar Land Rover (Tata Motors)
- Battery technology
- AGM main battery on nearly all cars of the last 15 years, plus a small AGM auxiliary battery on stop-start models.
- Typical capacity
- Main battery about 80 to 95Ah; the auxiliary is far smaller.
- Size standard
- DIN/EN cases, H7 and H8 class for the main battery.
- Where it sits
- In the boot under the floor on the XE, XF, XJ, F-Pace and F-Type, with jump-start points under the bonnet. Under the bonnet on the E-Pace and I-Pace.

Two batteries, two jobs
Main battery
- A full-size AGM, usually 80 to 95Ah. It cranks the engine and carries the car's electrical load.
- Fails with slow cranking, a low battery message on the dash and a car that will not unlock after a long stand.
- Replaced with the same capacity and AGM type, then reported to the monitoring system as new.
Auxiliary battery
- A much smaller AGM fitted to cars with stop-start. It keeps screens and lights steady while the main battery restarts the engine.
- Fails quietly. The usual sign is a message that stop-start is not available, while the car still starts normally.
- Tested separately. Replacing only the main battery leaves the warning on if the auxiliary is the weak one.
Why a Jaguar complains before it fails
A module on the negative terminal measures every amp going in and out of the battery. From that it estimates charge and health, and when the figure drops it starts shedding load: stop-start goes first, then heated and cooled seats, then the screen shows a low battery warning and asks you to start the engine.
In Arjan this usually shows up on cars that do short runs to Dubai Hills Estate or Motor City and then sit in a basement. The alternator never gets long enough to refill an AGM battery of this size. We measure resting voltage and cranking health first, because sometimes the honest answer is a long charge, not a new battery.
Replacing a Jaguar battery properly
- 1
Test both batteries
Main and auxiliary are tested separately, along with alternator output, so only the weak one is replaced.
- 2
Open the boot floor
Floor panel and trays come out. If the car is flat, the bonnet posts are powered first so the boot releases.
- 3
Fit like for like
AGM of the original capacity and case, vent tube reconnected, sensor lead refitted to the negative terminal without strain.
- 4
Reset the monitoring system
With a scan tool we tell the car a new battery is fitted. Charging and load management then start from a fresh battery, not an aged one.
Where the battery is, model by model
- XE, XF, XJ
- Boot, under the floor
- F-Pace
- Boot, under the floor
- F-Type, XK
- Boot, under the floor
- E-Pace
- Usually under the bonnet, rear of the bay
- I-Pace
- 12V battery under the bonnet
Typical positions. We confirm against your model year before the technician sets off.
Jump leads go on the body earth point
When jump starting or charging a Jaguar, the negative lead belongs on the earth stud the handbook shows, not on the battery's own negative post. Current that bypasses the monitoring module is not counted, so the car goes on believing the battery is empty. Our jump start service uses the marked points every time.

Jaguar: Model by model
- Jaguar F-Pace
- Main AGM of roughly 90Ah under the boot floor, with a small auxiliary battery nearby on stop-start cars. Jump-start points are under the bonnet, and the monitoring system is reset after fitting.
- Jaguar XF
- Boot-mounted AGM on both generations, usually 80 to 95Ah. Cars from about 2012 with stop-start carry a second, smaller battery beside it, and a tired auxiliary is a common cause of the stop-start warning.
- Jaguar XE
- AGM main battery in the boot, typically in the 80Ah class, plus the auxiliary on stop-start cars. The boot is small, so the floor panel and tool tray come out for access.
- Jaguar E-Pace
- Unlike the saloons, the E-Pace usually has its battery under the bonnet beneath a cover near the bulkhead. It is still AGM and still needs the monitoring system reset, and we confirm the location by photo.
- Jaguar F-Type
- The battery sits under the boot floor, which matters on a car that is often parked for weeks. A flat F-Type is woken through the bonnet posts before the boot will open.
- Jaguar XJ
- A large AGM under the boot floor, usually around 95Ah, feeding air suspension, soft-close doors and rear seat motors. Stop-start cars have the auxiliary battery as well.
- Jaguar I-Pace
- Electric, but it relies on a 12V battery under the bonnet to wake up and close its contactors. A flat 12V leaves the car dead with a full main battery, so we test it before anything else.

We carry brands that car makers fit at the factory and that hold up in Gulf heat. Each one has its strengths, and we will tell you which suits your car.
VartaThe German battery many European cars leave the factory with, in standard, EFB and AGM form.
ExideOne of the oldest names in car batteries, now made by two separate companies. The label tells you which.
BoschA German parts name with a battery range you can read by its code: S4, S5, S4 E and S5 A.

Jaguar: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
Why does my Jaguar say low battery, please start engine?
The monitoring system has measured the battery charge below its threshold with the engine off. It can mean a short-trip car that needs a long charge, or a main battery at the end of its life. A test of resting voltage and cranking health tells the two apart in a few minutes.
Does my Jaguar have two batteries?
If it has stop-start, most likely yes. XE, XF, XJ, F-Pace and F-Type cars with the system carry a full-size main battery and a small auxiliary battery. Older cars and those without stop-start have one. We check on the car and test each battery by itself.
Does a Jaguar battery need to be registered or reset?
Yes. After a new battery the battery monitoring system should be reset with a scan tool. Without it the car keeps the old battery's history, may hold stop-start off and can charge the new AGM incorrectly. The reset is part of our fitting, not an extra visit.
Can you replace a Jaguar battery in my building's basement in Dubai?
Yes. We need the boot to open and enough room behind the car to lift the floor panel. In Arjan and neighbouring communities arrival is usually 20 to 35 minutes. Elsewhere in Dubai we confirm the time on WhatsApp before setting off.
