The short answer
A Range Rover takes an AGM battery of about 80 to 95Ah, and on most recent Range Rover, Sport and Velar models it sits under the boot floor with a second, smaller battery beside it. Arjan Battery tests both, replaces the one that has failed at your car in Arjan or anywhere in Dubai, and resets the battery monitoring system with a scan tool.
A Range Rover tells you about its battery before most cars do. 'Low battery, please start engine' on the screen is usually the first sign, often well ahead of a failed start. The car keeps a long list of electrical equipment on standby while it is parked, and in Dubai heat the battery that feeds it all has a hard life.

One car, two batteries
Main battery
- A large AGM battery, usually H8 class and around 90 to 95Ah on the bigger models.
- It cranks the engine and carries the car's electrical load when the engine is off.
- When it weakens you see 'Low battery, please start engine' and slow cranking.
- It is the one that fails most often after a long period parked.
Auxiliary battery
- A much smaller AGM battery, mounted beside the main one or in the engine bay.
- It holds voltage steady for the screens and control units while stop-start restarts the engine.
- When it weakens, stop-start becomes unavailable and a battery warning may show.
- The car still starts normally, which is why this one is often missed.

Why a Range Rover asks you to start the engine
The battery monitoring system measures the current leaving the battery whenever the engine is off. Sit with the screen, the audio and the climate fan running, and the car counts the charge down and asks you to start the engine once it reaches a set limit. On a healthy battery that takes a while. On an old one the message arrives within minutes.
Short trips make it worse. A drive between Arjan and Dubai Hills Estate with the AC, cooled seats and air suspension working does not return what the start took out. Over a few weeks the battery settles at a low state of charge, and AGM batteries age quickly when they are kept there. An AGM battery replacement followed by a monitoring reset puts the count back to zero.
A Range Rover battery through the Dubai year
AGM only, and never one battery without testing the other
A Range Rover with stop-start left the factory with AGM batteries and must get AGM again. A flooded battery under the boot floor is the wrong type for a closed space and will not survive the charging pattern. We also test the auxiliary battery every time, because a failed small battery can pull a new main battery down with it.

Range Rover: Model by model
- Range Rover Vogue
- From the 2013 shape the main AGM battery, about 90 to 95Ah, is under the boot floor with an auxiliary battery nearby. Older generations keep it under the bonnet, so the year decides the job.
- Range Rover Sport
- The first generation has its battery in a covered box under the bonnet. From the 2014 shape it moved under the boot floor, usually a 90 to 95Ah AGM with a second battery alongside.
- Range Rover Velar
- Usually an AGM main battery under the boot floor with a smaller auxiliary battery. Mild-hybrid engines add a 48V system, which is separate from the 12V batteries we replace.
- Range Rover Evoque
- The battery is under the bonnet, set back near the windscreen under covers, usually an AGM of about 80Ah. Stop-start versions add a small auxiliary battery.
- Range Rover Evoque L
- The long-wheelbase Evoque follows the standard car's layout, with an AGM battery and battery monitoring. It is uncommon here, so we confirm the details by VIN before setting off.

Range Rover: common questions
Not answered here? Ask on WhatsApp. A person replies, at any hour.
Where is the battery in a Range Rover Sport?
On the Sport from the 2014 shape onwards, the main battery is under the boot floor, usually with the auxiliary battery beside it. On the first-generation Sport it is in a covered box under the bonnet. Jump start terminals are in the engine bay on both, so a flat car can be started without clearing the boot.
Why does my Range Rover say low battery, please start engine?
The battery monitoring system has counted more charge leaving the battery than it considers safe for the next start. Occasionally, with the engine off and everything running, that is normal. If it appears within a few minutes or after ordinary parking, the main battery is losing capacity and should be tested.
Does a Range Rover need a battery reset after replacement?
Yes. The battery monitoring system stores the old battery's age and state of charge. Until it is reset with a scan tool, the car undercharges or overcharges the new battery and stop-start may stay off. We reset it at your car in Arjan or elsewhere in Dubai straight after fitting.
What battery does a Range Rover Evoque take?
Most Evoque models take an AGM battery of about 80Ah in an H7 case, fitted under the bonnet near the windscreen. Stop-start versions also have a small auxiliary battery. Covers have to come off to reach the main one, so it takes longer than the battery on an ordinary hatchback.
Can you change a Range Rover battery at my villa or tower?
Yes. The technician works where the car is parked, in a driveway, a basement bay or a podium car park. In Arjan and neighbouring communities such as Dubai Hills Estate he usually arrives in 20 to 35 minutes. Further out we confirm the arrival time on WhatsApp. The scan tool comes with him.
